All you need to know about a Story Slam
How long should my story be?
You have five minutes to tell your story (with a minutes grace) so practice telling the story out loud.
Can I use notes?
No props, no notes, just you, a microphone and the audience.
Cicada stories are told, not read. We’ve experienced the way the storyteller connects to audience when there is no PAGE between them. Please know your story “by heart” but not by rote memorization. No notes, paper or cheat sheets allowed on stage.
Can my story be about anything?
Yes, but with in the theme chosen for the night. Your story must be about the local area somehow.
Do I need to book in to tell my story?
We would love to make sure we have enough tellers for the night, so please register the theme and the date that you would like to be a storyteller
Where are the story slam nights held?
All story slams are held at the back room at the Daylesford Hotel.
What are the rules?
No rules as such but we ask you tell a local story, keep to the theme and make sure your story is five minutes long. Judges will be using these guidelines to gauge best story on the night.

Will you record my story?
Yes. We will be recording and photographing you for our podcast. We will need to get you to sign a consent form on the night, that reads much like this –
I, hereby voluntarily and without compensation authorize pictures and/or voice recording(s) to be made of me. I hereby give permission to The Cicada Slam to use, reproduce, and distribute the video footage, photographs, or voice recordings, including my name. I hereby agree to release The Cicada Slam from any claims, damages or liability arising out of such use or distribution. I understand that the use of my name, likeness, and voice recordings will be primarily for the purposes of promotion by this organization. I have read and understand the foregoing and I consent to the use of my picture and/or voice as specified for the above-described purpose(s). I further understand that no royalty, fee or other compensation of any character shall become payable to me.
Or, (if under 18) I am the parent/legal guardian of the individual named above. I have read this release and approve of its terms.
